Humboldt is a lush, green, prehistoric paradise for those needing to be embraced by mother earth. The Pacific Ocean gives birth to life here. It is a place where you are able to stand on the edge of the earth with no one in sight. When the fog finally lifts it reveals a glistening bay, towering redwoods and snow covered mountain peaks in the distance. The people here have gone as far west as they could, stopped, and created a one of a kind community of artists, rebels, hippies and nature enthusiasts. It is a place of extremes for me. This place will take you to your deepest sorrows to your greatest joys, to edges of your mind and beyond. It is a place where you are able to indulge and over indulge in your senses. It is a place where people talk freely of a world that is built on loving yourself and each other, where personal manifestation is happening now, where respect for our food and farmers is reflected in our markets and policies, where vibrational healing is regularly practiced and the power of community is everywhere. It is a place where people come to live in the mountains, to grow weed, to have a self-sustaining farm, to live off grid, to do drugs, to dance naked in the moonlight, to turn their phones off, to heal and experience life on a whole new level. Many people get lost behind the redwood curtain, in the wild abandon of boundaries and norms, the only person you are accountable to is yourself. Drugs, greed, deceit and desperation live alongside love, gratitude, healing and abundance. Living here is like being on a trip that never ends. Normal doesn't happen, the ground seems to be so far away. Luckily, the ancient redwoods are antennae to the universal energies. They are here to stay until the last one is cut down. They are the roots of our community. The roots that weave us together in an ancient and sacred way. To walk through these forests is to be blessed with a healing so powerful that tears of understanding, belonging, meaning, love, sorrow and clarity come flowing from your eyes. I am forever grateful for my time here and will call on this wisdom whenever I feel alone in a world of disconnect, hatred and confusion. It all seems ok here.Transients, Hippies, College Students, Growers, Burners, Trimmigrants, Off-the-Griders, however you want to classify us, we all have something in common: we have spent transformational seasons and years in a magical place.
